1. Art thou weary, art thou languid,
Art thou sore distressed?
Come to me, saith One, and coming
Be at rest!
2. Hath He marks to lead me to Him,
If He be my guide?
In His feet and hands are woundprints
And His side
3. Hath He diadem as Monarch
That His brow adorns?
Yea, a crown in very surety,
But of thorns!
4. If I find Him, if! Follow
What His guerdon here?
Many a sorrow, many a labour,
Many a tear
5. If I still hold closely to Him,
What hath He at last?
Sorrow vanquished, labour ended,
Jordan past
6. If I ask him to receive me,
Will He say me nay?
Not till earth and not till heaven
Pass away
7. Finding, following, cleaving, trusting
Is He sure to bless?
Saints, apostles, prophets, martyrs,
Answer: Yes!
Coming across this old hymn I wonder the sincerity of Jesus. Everyone crazy about getting followers try to paint a blissful, smooth experience if followed to people. But Jesus never deceive anyone who chooses to follow Him, in John 15:18-20 and Mark 10:29,30, He made it clear that though there's a blissful end for all who chooses to follow Him yet, suffering persecution, ostracism etc are part of the journey. O what a truthful friend.
Don't be weary O comrade, a true guide is gone ahead of you. Only set your gaze on Him and you shall soon laugh.
Shalom.
