"So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:14-16 NLT.
As believers in Jehovah God through Christ Jesus, we are not just saved for nothing, God has great expectation over our life. He expects as it is written that we who now live should not (from the day we got saved) live unto ourselves, but unto Him which died for us, and rose again (2Cor.5:15); living in obedience and holiness as God's children and not go on in or back to our old ways of living wherein we are fleshly motivated and our personal desires drove us.
O Comrade, if the scriptures warns against slipping back into our old way of living, it means the possibility of slipping back or backsliding is real.
We were ruled in time past by instinct; driven by self desires having not the Holy Spirit of God. But after we have caught the life in the Holy Spirit and are now led by the Spirit, to backslide is to return to the former life wherein we are led by self desires.
Hold on unto the end. You may look foolish and your lifestyle not trendy but hold unto the life being led by the Spirit; for as many as are led by the Spirit of God are God's true children. Rom. 8:14.
May we receive grace that holds on to the end that we lose not our crowns in Jesus' name. Rev. 3:11.
