CHARACTERISTICS OF LOVE 3

"Love is not jealous" 1Cor.13:4 NLT

Knowing that God is love and we're looking into His character so as to measure our lives with his standard life and seek grace to grow, we may think our theology is being contradicted if we render it as "God is not jealous", when He Himself said "I am a jealous God" Deut. 6:8.

Contextually, God is actually saying I am a God that tolerates no rival. And in the context of "God is love", jealousy means being painfully desirous of another person's advantages.

Love does not show cupidity.

There's no basis for jealousy amongst us, for in love, we're expected to celebrate the gifts of God which is found in everyone of us; that gift that the Holy Spirit gave individuals freely according to his will.

O comrade, do you find yourself growing jealous of your brother who is gifted in one area or the other? Do not permit the flesh to take you over. Rather, let the love of God which is shed abroad in our hearts find expression through you; celebrate your brother and maximize what you have for no one is left without a gift.

We differ not for rivalry but for complementing each other in love.

May we receive grace to see as God sees that we may operate in love as He does in Jesus' name.

Shalom.
