And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.
So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: WE HAVE DONE THAT WHICH WAS OUR DUTY TO DO." Luke 17:7-10
It is established in the scriptures that no man can be saved by works but it is also established in the scriptures that he who claims to have been saved but does not work is lying about his salvation. (Eph.2:8,9; 1John 2:4; James 2:20,26)
Just as the characteristics of living things show that it's possessor is alive, so also works of righteousness show that a man who claims to be saved is truly saved and alive unto God.
But as paramount as works is, a saved soul has nothing to brag of about whatever works he has done for "[Not in your own strength] for it is God who all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for his good pleasure and satisfaction and delight" Eph.2:13 AMP.
A soul will therefore be rewarded in heaven for every work he did in cooperation with the Holy Spirit indwelling him. And if he work outside of the will of God (not cooperating with the Holy Spirit), he shall not only lose his reward but may also lose his soul(Matt.24:30-51, 25:1-12; Rom.8:13; Gal.5:16-21).
Cooperate O Comrade with the Holy Spirit and you shall have your soul saved even in the end.
Shalom.
